Welcome to Charles City High School; Home of the Comets!
At Charles City High School we are proud to continue with the already outstanding academic programs and extracurricular activities, while at the same time investigating areas where we can continue to grow.
At Charles City CSD, we are reshaping our mission and vision to bring our focus to personalizing education for our students. This vision will be completed through teamwork, collaboration, parent and community input. We will have to go outside the box in our thinking and investigate other programs, activities, and educational opportunities to allow all of our students more opportunities to excel.
At CCHS we are dedicated to changing the “high school experience” of our students to help propel them into their post-secondary education and/or career. Through a joint effort among students, staff, and administrators we strive to create a safe, collaborative, and inclusive environment. We are changing what the traditional day looks like with the addition of SMART Lunch program, a sort of “working lunch” hour for all students, new learning experiences/class offerings, and a host of ideas to re-energize our high school culture.
At CCHS, we are working hand in hand with the community with the goal of seeing all students graduate college and career-ready, whether that means attending a two-year college, a four-year university, or immediately pursuing a career path that fulfills their passion. In order to see to the success of our goals for students, we need to develop a meaningful partnership between school, home, and community to offer our students authentic real-world learning experiences. Through our “Back-to-School” project we have taken important steps towards new and exciting partnerships with the community that will have tremendous impact on student learning next school year and beyond.
As we establish a more personalized approach to learning at CCHS, we are nearing completion of our “Essential Learning Targets,” our standards for academic achievement and performance. These targets will provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum for our classes and provide a platform to continue work on instructional strategies such as project-based learning and work-to-school opportunities to maximize student learning. With a focus on interdisciplinary offerings, students voice and choice, real-world experiences, authentic audiences, and a substantial expansion of Advanced Placement (AP) classes; we are dedicated to improving student learning at CCHS.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime, I welcome the opportunity to discuss all things happening at CCHS!
