In Iowa, inclement weather is a possibility nearly every month of the year. The Charles City Community School District would like to alert the staff, students, and parents to the school closing procedures for the 2016-2017 school year. The decision to close school due to inclement weather is a difficult and serious undertaking. At all times, the safety of students is the underlying basis for determining when to cancel school, start late, or send the buses home early.
In most situations, the decision to cancel classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. When the Charles City Community School District changes plans, we will use the following communication streams:

School e-mail & text notification

Your school demographic information serves as your notification numbers for the school notification phone call, text, and e-mail. If you are not receiving information please contact your student’s building secretary to review your contact information. It is also important to opt-in by texting YES to 68453 from your phone.
We allow eight phone numbers and three e-mail addresses to be notified per student.
Also check the Charles City Community School District calendar for the latest weather related changes of school events, athletic contests, meetings, concerts, etc. You can sign up for text & e-mail notifications of activity changes as they are made.
We ask that you do not call the school, bus barn, or the media concerning cancellations. Please engage with these communication streams for information about school closings.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding these procedures, please contact the Superintendent’s Office.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding when school delays and cancellations occur.
