October Newsletter

Dear Parents,
This week
marks the middle of the trimester. On Monday, your child will be
bringing home a slip with their mid term scores. Many of the
students are doing very well and are putting forth great effort.
Some students need to make sure that they are getting their work
done and turned in. Also for some, quality is a bit of a concern.
The biggest area of concern is the monthly reading requirements and
students not passing AR tests. Students need to make sure they are
reading carefully.
In Social Studies we are currently working
on our pioneer research. We will be typing paragraphs and creating
a panel to display our learning. We will also be starting our quilt
project next week as well as selecting an event from Iowa history
to research. All of this information will be made into a panel book
for your child to display on Pioneer night. Most of the work for
these projects will be done in class, but look for some to bring
some work to finish up at home. You can expect them to bring home
their quilt design to color at home on Monday. All of the projects
will be due on October 20. If students type projects at home, have
them e mail the document to me at school.

Pioneer Craft Day will be scheduled and
a note will come home looking for volunteers. This is a fun
day for both parents and students.
In math we are beginning our place value
unit and then will be reviewing addition and subtraction before
starting on multiplication and division. All students need to be
practicing basic facts in these areas. We have taken a timed test
in all areas to see where each student is.
In reading we will be finishing Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and
then returning to the reading book. They should continue to read
every night and will be required to read a historical fiction and
one additional book this month.
Book orders are due Monday October 6,
2008.
Have a great weekend.
