High school gifted students are looking to the future, setting goals, pursuing interests and career exploration. The goal for the gifted program at the High School is to offer a variety of exposures. As such, the following is a list of offerings, this list is not all-inclusive.

Iowa Online Advanced Placement Academy
The Iowa Online Advanced Placement Academy has been established to deliver Advanced Placement (AP) courses to high school students across the State of Iowa utilizing Apex Learning on-line technology and the Iowa Communications Network (ICN).
Charles City High School students can sign up for AP Online Placement classes with the High School Gifted Coordinator. Cost of courses and materials are paid for by a grant and are free to the student.

Grade: 10-12
Length of Course: 1 Trimester
Prerequisite: Approval from H.S. Gifted Facilitator
Because gifted students are unique individuals this course is designed to provide an out of classroom environment and experience for them. Identified students will produce self-directed projects or experiences. The course will encompass an in-depth study of a topic/subject, career opportunity, or life experience in the student’s interest area. Students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products or performances that reflect individuality and creativity.
