Choices to meet your needs and keep your family safe
In tonight’s update we are releasing the return to learn plan for this fall. There is both a one-page summary and a full report of Charles City Community Schools draft Return to Learn Plan linked below. As you review these documents we want everyone to understand Charles City Community Schools has choices to meet your individual family needs and keep your family safe. On July 31, the district will announce which of the three plans (on-site, hybrid, or remote learning) we will begin the school year using. No matter what option is best districtwide at that time, based on COVID-19 data from state and local sources, Charles City Community Schools will have options that meet the needs of your family.
A 19-person task-force from every campus helped develop these plans. We thank them for their four months of work. This is still a draft plan and we are soliciting feedback from our families. We will answer any questions you might have in upcoming FAQs.
Guidance continues to change from the state and local level on a regular basis, so we still have work to do on a couple of topics including how personal protective equipment will look at each campus. We appreciate your grace as we forge into unexplored areas. Our continued goal is to keep our students safe while providing an amazing #CharlesCityExperience.

After careful consideration of the current COVID-19 situation and discussions with our local county health department and senior students, we’ve made the tough decision of officially canceling prom this year. Based on the current criteria that is laid out for social distancing requirements we did not feel that we are able to create an environment that would be fun and enjoyable for all students and the majority of the fun and entertaining elements of prom would have to be canceled or heavily modified (grand march, dance, and after prom). We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we waited to see if we could attempt it prior to the end of the summer when our seniors leave for their future plans.
Families that missed the original student Chromebook roll-in at the beginning of June are asked to now please return their Chromebooks to the respective school buildings. The only exception is if you had indicated that you were in an online course over the summer or you have worked with school employees to keep yours to continue with credit recovery work.
There are phone numbers listed on the doors of each school to get someone in the building to hand it to. Make sure to return the case, with Chromebook and charger inside or you will have a charge added to your registration fee for the missing items.
