Transition to hybrid learning

We are seeing data indicating an increase in COVID cases in Floyd County. Specifically, we are watching a trend in the 14-day average.
    Monday - 10.5%
    Tuesday - 11.5%
    Wednesday - 12.8%
Floyd County’s 14-day average has been above 10% for three days, and the direction doesn’t show it going down.

Because of this trend, there is a special board of education meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 5 at 5 P.M. The superintendent’s recommendation to the board will be “to transition grades 7-12 to hybrid learning on Tuesday, November 10 through Tuesday, November 24 per the adopted decision matrix.”

In October, the Charles City Board of Education reviewed and passed a matrix clarifying the parameters for transitioning in and out of hybrid learning. When the rolling average is above 10% for three days or more, we begin the procedure to transition back to hybrid learning for two weeks.

The good news is the school cases are still low, and our attendance rate is still high. It’s critical to the health of the community that Charles City Community Schools be proactive to keep COVID cases low for our students and the community.

We will continue to keep a close eye on the COVID cases, and when the rolling 14-day average for Floyd County returns to below 10% for three days, we will begin the transition back to full in-person learning again.

Students are doing a wonderful job maintaining social distance and wearing their face masks and we believe this is helping keep students and teachers safe. We will update you again Thursday evening.

MIDDLE SCHOOL UPDATE:

Orange/Comet Teams:  To make this a smooth transition, we will do our best to limit the number of Orange/Comet team changes for our 7th and 8th grade students.  This will be finalized Friday morning, so please check PowerSchool to see if this information has changed.  We will be sharing this information with the students on-campus during the day on Friday.

MS Athletics:  We will be running practices every day.  Student-athletes will not be penalized for missing practice on their remote learning days (off-campus).  If you would like to attend, but transportation is an issue, please contact your coach.
