Updated guidance from IDPH

New guidance in effect immediately

May 14, 2021

The Iowa Department of Public Health released updated guidance late this afternoon with recommendations for schools and child care settings. Effective today, Friday, May 14, 2021 at 6 P.M. cloth face coverings are optional and recommended at Charles City Community Schools and at school events for students, staff, and guests.

Per the state’s guidance, students and staff will only be quarantined if they are symptomatic or known to be positive for COVID-19. The state has adjusted its guidance to recommend schools and childcare settings approach COVID-19 like other childhood illnesses. Children exposed to COVID-19 will no longer be required to stay home, regardless of mask usage.

Again, effective immediately, cloth face coverings are optional and recommended at school and at school events as per Iowa Department of Public Health.
